Introduction

The Üröm Environment and Nature Conservation Association was founded in 2000 with the aim of preserving and presenting the natural values of the South-Hevens region. We carry out conservation, environmental education and research activities with the help of our expert members and volunteers. We work in close cooperation with the Bükk National Park Directorate to ensure that the communities and natural treasures of the Hevesi Plain, Hevesi Plateau and Gyöngyösi Plain are preserved for future generations. Although our area of operation covers the whole of Hungary, our activities are mainly carried out in the area around the towns of Füzesabony and Heves. Field work is mainly carried out in the Heves Grassland Nature Reserve, the Kerecsendi Forest Nature Reserve, the Erdőtelki Mire Bog Nature Reserve and the Erdőtelki Arboretum Nature Reserve, as well as in the regional protected areas of the Natura2000 network.

Our eponymous, the saline wormwood

Our eponymous, the saline wormwood

We can often become attached to simple things that have no meaning for others. And if we look closely, behind the simplicity and modesty of these things, some values and specialities eventually attract the attention of those around us.

The Magic of South-Heves

The Magic of South-Heves

Southern Heves is like a mosaic. Most of the picture is made up of monochrome patches of farmland, but its real value lies in the many tiny, shimmering fragments - the patches of salt marsh, bogs and clumps of trees - without which the "shapes" of red-footed falcons and rollers would disappear from the picture.
